Karitane Estuary

In the Karitane estuary they used to do lots things over the years. They had regattas, where crowded trains would bring loads of people to take part. They would do things like boat races, greasy boom competitions, men's swimming races and rowing. One of the things they did the most was fishing with nets. They caught eels, blue cod, trout and flounder.

These days we have a New Years raft race, fishing on the wharf, fishing competitions, white baiting, swimming and Kayak Karitane where you can hire a kayak and paddle in the estuary.
