Patea 2012
Patea Area School - Primary
On Friday/Saturday night 2-3 March, 2012 a fierce storm hit Patea.
Houses, shops, town and farm buildings were damaged by winds reaching 120 kmh and heavy rain. Roofs were lifted, iron wrapped around lampposts, windows smashed, shop fronts ripped away, fences collapsed, trees broken, power poles blown down, and roads blocked. Luckily noone was hurt but for many there was much to clean up. Many families were without power for up to a week.
The year 3 and 4 children of Patea Area School had stories to tell when they returned to school. Over the next few weeks they shared their experiences, they wrote and drew pictures of what had happened.
Enjoy reading their stories about the Patea storm.
