Te Wheke, Te Ika (The Octopus, The Fish)
On our 'eastern' pou below Puwheke, is a wheke (octopus). When you look at the maunga, it also looks like an octopus. Wheke are often found in the area.
On our 'western' pou below Hukatere is an ika (fish). It is represented here because it is found in abundance along Te Oneroa A Tohe. Ika was an important food source for Maori.
