Fundraising

Kia Orana

Our names are Jayden and Tahia. We are students of Apii Te Uki Ou and we interviewed Karyn Vinsen about fundraising.

Every 2 years we have a raffle fundraiser which raises the most money. We have also had a round the rock relay. Kids from Te Uki Ou would get dropped off on different parts of the island and ask people on bikes, cars, trucks and many more for donations. In 2004 Pumpkin Patch used students from Apii Te Uki Ou to model for them. Their donation helped to build new classrooms for the students. In 2009 forms 1 and 2 raised $14,000 for their trip to Mangaia to learn about their traditional culture. They had sausage sizzle sales which got them started on fundraising. We also had movie nights which raised about $1000 per movie and last but not least a 70’s Disco night for parents.

Karyn Vinsen’s most memorable moments were parent days, but the hardest part of fundraising was getting other people and parents involved to help fundraise for Apii Te Uki Ou.
