Kia ora and welcome to this issue of the Living Heritage newsletter.

Living Heritage Day

Living Heritage Day was held on 22 August and was celebrated in Wellington at the Central Public Library. 30 students from Bellevue and Northland schools, showcased their Living Heritage websites, sharing their research of local heritage treasures with parents, community members and Living Heritage partners such as the National Library and the 2020 Communications Trust. They were congratulated by Minister Judith Tizard, responsible for the National Library, who explained the value of these heritage taonga being preserved online for our future. Thank you to the students and teachers that participated. They did a fantastic job sharing their knowledge and taking the guests through their sites on Newlands’ Volunteer Fireservice, Stellin Memorial Park, and the Mysteries of Woodridge Farm.

These sites were launched on Living Heritage Day and are available online:

New look Living Heritage site

We are upgrading the Living Heritage site!

It will look a little different, and will be easier to use. There will also be some new content for teachers about how Living Heritage relates to the new New Zealand Curriculum. The template that we send to schools for publishing their online story is also changing. It will be more user-friendly and allow you to add some additional features, such as your own banner. Keep an eye out for this change in September.
