Mike Shatford: Hi, I’m Mike Shatford I’m the head of communication from the Canterbury Earthquake recovery authority called CERA. We’re inviting schools in greater Christchurch to participate in the recovery effort through a photographic competition. CERA’s recently released a draft recovery strategy this document sets how Christchurch is going to be great again. It’s got a vision; it sets out the priority areas and tells us what we’re going to be focusing on the next few years. So we’re looking for photographs that represent what the recovery might look like and they can be anything that look at the economic recovery, the social recovery, the cultural recovery, anything that you think represents how we’re going to be great again. We’re looking forward to seeing your photographs good luck and have lots of fun.
Student: A photographic competition would be good because it gives people a chance to see what Christchurch might be like in the future.
Student: It’s also going to get people’s ideas out.
Student: Hopefully they’ll have a say on what they want the city to be like which is really important I think.
Student: Just sort of to get a more clearer vision of what you think Christchurch would look like.
Student: I think it would bring up people’s awareness of what children want to happen and it would be nice for the children to have the say not just the adults to say ‘we’re going to have it like this’.
Student: It’s a pretty cool idea because people can see what people want to have happen.
Student: I would like to photograph me and my friends at the new cathedral.
Student: And I’d like to go stand beside that new AMI stadium.
Student: I would shoot in the Botanical Gardens or Hadley Park because I want lots of parks and walkways.
Student: I’d probably go to the Botanical Gardens because it’s really important to Christchurch and it’s a big part of Christchurch.
Student: I would take a photo of me and the Crusaders at a private training.
Student: People need to go to the library and read books and stuff and yeah libraries are a focus of community.
Student: Really to have that community feel in the city and be able to talk to people as you’re walking down the road.
Student: Earth friendly, colourful buildings and maybe even electric buses that don’t pollute the air so we don’t have a grey cloudy Christchurch.
Student: I think that we should be the green, garden city that we’re known for.
Student: For me it’s all about the environment and get parks everywhere and greens on top of buildings.
Student: An exciting city, an unshakable one and one that will have a long lasting future.
Good luck and have fun.
